Jamaica invites Canadians to reunite in Kingston |
|
Kingston, Jamaica will host 'Reunion in the City' from October 13th to October 23rd. The Jamaica Hotel and Tourism Association (JHTA) wants to encourage people from all over Jamaica, the Caribbean, and Jamaicans living in North America and Europe to reunite in Kingston.
Events of Reunion in the City include:
The 2004 World Championship of Dominoes with cash and prizes valued at more than US$150,000.
The 14th Annual Merritone Family Reunion features some of the best musical artists from all over the Caribbean.
The Port Royal Seafood Festival featuring some of the best seafood Jamaica has to offer.
The University of Technology's Alumni Sports Day.
Participating Kingston hotels have special rates and entertainment packages available to Canadians and special Reunion in the City packages will be available through Air Jamaica.

Up From The Roots |
|
On Saturday, October 23rd, Up From The Roots Entertainment will celebrate their 10th Anniversary as one of the premiere providers and producers of Urban entertainment in Toronto. Soul Sessions will take place at the Jane Mallett Theatre inside of the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts, and will feature a number of Toronto's top performing artists.
Up From The Roots was founded by spoken word artists Dwayne Morgan in 1994.
Since then, Up From The Roots has produced over 100 events including the Black Love soul and poetry series, Talking Aloud for Harbourfront Centre's Kuumba Festival, The Toronto International Poetry Slam, When Brothers Speak, The Roots Lounge, the Africanadian Arts and Music Festival at Ontario Place, and When Sisters Speak.
To commemorate the occasion Morgan will also release his, A Decade in the Making, double album.

Antigua and Barbuda - Twenty-Third Birthday Celebrations |
|
The Government of Antigua and Barbuda recently launched the initial Independence Homecoming Project. The objective is to invite all Antiguans and Barbudans living overseas including thousands living in Canada, as well as our Canadian friends to come back to the twin island nation between October 24 and November 1, 2004 and help celebrate the country's twenty-third birthday.
There are numerous cultural events planned including a Homecoming Queen Competition; Independence Calypso Competition; Independence Pan Competition and Food Fair; a Youth Festival and "At Home Antigua Trade Show". In addition, there will be a special forum at which the Prime Minister and two other ministers of Government will exchange ideas with nationals who are planning to return home. An elegant Independence Banquet at Nelson's Dockyard will top off the celebrations.

Toronto-Canada Eagleforce Entertainment, one of North America's premier promoters of the soul and r&b musical genre's, has teamed up with MBLM Transport to assemble a cast of musical giants for the The Original Love Classics Concert. This concert will be featuring the pioneers of the soul music fraternity including Millie Jackson, Melba Moore, Percy Sledge and Caribbean tinged soul balladeers Ernie Smith and Leroy Artist Brown. Also included are veteran balladeer Jill Donaldson and newcomer Nijal. The Original Love Classics, will take place in Toronto, Canada at the elegant International Centre at 6900 Airport Road (close to all major access highways and international airport), on Saturday November 27th, 2004.
Millie Jackson rose to fame with her raunchy style and racy language that audiences from all over the world, love. Millie began singing on a dare, when she heckled a lady onstage who dared her to do better. This, it is said began this musical innovators legacy. With a string of top ten hit singles including If Loving Is Wrong I Don't Want to Be Right, from her album Caught Up , and Tell Me What You Want, Hurts So Good, Millie Jackson
songwriter, producer and playwright, will not disappoint.
Melba Moore began her rise to fame through appearances in musicals including the groundbreaking Hair, where she eventually replaced the lead. Melba went on to star in the hit musical play Purlie, as Lutiebelle Jenkins. This performance earned Moore, a Tony award for Best Supporting Actress, the first Black actress to do so. This launched her career in movies and television. Her musical prowess earned her a Grammy nomination for her signature song Leon On Me. Melba Moore has a wide and encompassing range, has just released her first gospel recording, I'm Still Here.
Percy Sledge, the legendary King of Soul, still evokes profound feelings to every music fan that hears his soulful ballad When A Man Loves A Woman. Singing since he was a teenager, Sledge has released a number of top ten hits including It Tears Me Up, Warm and Tender Love and Take Time to Know Her. Percy Sledge has accumulated five gold and 2 platinum albums over the course of his illustrious career.
Ernie Smith is a balladeer with a smooth sensual voice that has captures the essence of that Caribbean soul. Never one to shy from controversy, Smith was exiled to North America when his song Power and the Glory was deemed controversial by the local politico's in his native land in the late seventies. Ernie never looked back and has written over two hundred songs and tours continuously.
Leroy Artist Brown is a staple on the Canadian music scene, with numerous hit records including Rent A Tile, for which he won the 2004 Juno award. This veteran entertainer has a repertoire that includes soul, r&b , reggae and contemporary top forty hits.
The Original Love Classics Concerts will also feature local based artist who are seasoned performers including Jill Donaldson and the original Nijal. Jay Douglas and his skilful and talented All Star Band will provide the musical direction for all the artists.
