Chairman of the CARICOM Prime Ministerial Sub-Committee on Cricket, Keith Mitchell, is bullish about the benefits that will accrue from hosting Cricket World Cup 2007.
The Prime Minister of Grenada welcomed delegates to another meeting of the Sub-committee, which he convened at the Grenada Grand Beach Resort.
Delegates were told that in spite of a severe battering from Hurricane Ivan on September 7, 2004 the National Stadium will be ready in time for the World Cup.
One of the proposals for the Heads of Government to approve is the Cricket World Cup visa that will facilitate immigration and customs policies throughout the region.
He also informed the meeting of progress on the latest developments between the West Indies Players' Association and the West Indies Cricket Board.
"It is one of the biggest challenges yet," explained the Prime Ministerial Sub-committee Chairman.
He noted that there are still some outstanding hurdles, but nothing that cannot be addressed in the near future.
"I am convinced that both parties have West Indies cricket at heart and are willing to make the necessary compromises as they would have to ensure that an atmosphere of trust and goodwill prevails. It is the hope of all concerned that conditions are created for West Indies cricket to be back to the top of the pack, where it truly belongs," he said
